Thanks to the generous collaboration between McDonald’s and the fitness app WithU, many people received a free one-year subscription to the app. In reality, this subscription costs money. But what is the actual value of this subscription? Is this kind of bonus worth holding on to? And how does the WithU app differ from other fitness applications? You’ll find the answers to these questions in this honest review!
If you’re too lazy to read and prefer to consume information visually, I recommend watching the video version of the review in this short clip:
So, who is the WithU app for?
WithU is essentially a library of pre-recorded workouts for different goals. The recommendations you see in the app depend on how you set up your plan. For example, you can choose the following fitness goals:
- Improve cardio
- Running
- Overall fitness
- Lose weight
- Get stronger
- Become more flexible and mobile
- Improve your Pilates form
- Improve your mental wellbeing (through exercise)

WithU also offers workouts for people who have equipment (bike, rower, treadmill, elliptical, dumbbells) and for those who don’t own any fitness gear.
How does the WithU Fitness App motivate you to work out?
Those who didn’t win a subscription but paid for it themselves (about $16 per month) are already motivated, since they’re spending money to exercise. But beyond financial motivation, the app offers other incentives for people who want to get in better shape. For example:
- Workout Streaks – in the “Profile” section you’ll find information about how often you’ve been working out. If you love long streaks, you’ll have motivation to keep going.
- The app also lets you earn badges for achievements in each sport — this gamification can motivate people who enjoy dopamine hits and visual rewards!
- You can also participate in monthly challenges along with other users. For example, in November 2025 the available challenges were: November Streak Week, Daily Steps Challenge, and Momentum Builder Challenge.

What about the quality of workouts in WithU?
The app mainly features 10–30 minute workout recordings. The video quality is excellent and shot in professional studios. The voice-over is done by real people, not AI — which sets this app apart from other fitness applications that rely on AI-generated audio.

Many real trainers participate in the fitness videos. There are workouts for different levels — from beginner to advanced — so you won’t get bored even if you already have a high level of fitness.
You can also download workouts locally to your phone if you plan to exercise somewhere without an Internet connection.
Another feature of the app is the option to consult with an AI assistant. You can adjust your plan or find the exercises you need by chatting with the bot. But overall, this function isn’t particularly essential. It feels more like the WithU developers just wanted to join the AI hype!
Overall, this app is a high-quality collection of workouts aimed at helping you reach your fitness goals. The number of workouts is very large — hundreds of videos, possibly around a thousand — and the library is constantly expanding. The app is worth its price, and if you received it for free through McDonald’s, consider yourself very lucky.
By the way, if you have a code for a free annual WithU subscription and don’t plan to use it yourself, feel free to share it in the comments! That way, you’ll be giving a gift to strangers — a subscription to a fitness app that has the potential to improve their quality of life and health!
